A3 Platform

A3 is the third generation Volkswagen FWD watercooled small car platform.
The Golf hatchback and Jetta sedan were available from 1993 to 1999, and the Cabrio convertible was available from 1995 to 2002.
1993-1997 Canadian-specification Golfs and Jettas were available with a 1.9L turbodiesel engine, with an engine code of AAZ.
Two 1997 Golfs with the 1.9L TDI engine were imported to the North American market. The 1997-1999 Jetta was available with the same engine, and a slightly updated version of that engine.
