[edit] Relay 109
On older cars (up to some 2001 cars), relay 109 may fail and prevent the car from being driven.
The relay is a rectangular block that may be seen by shining a flashlight into the crack between the panels below the steering column. It says "109" (or "601" if upside down) on it. It may be gray or black. The old, failure prone ones are black. Newer gray ones are not failure prone. However, there may be some even newer ones that are also black.
[edit] Coolant migration
On some cars, coolant has been known to migrate from the reservoir into the plug connecting to the instrument panel, causing all sorts of (expensive) havoc with the electrical system. To see if this is a problem, unplug that plug and feel if it is wet inside.
[edit] Odd interior light, alarm, warning chime, or power lock behavior
Odd interior light, alarm, warning chime, or power lock behavior may be due to a failure in the door latch door open/closed detector. See http://communityhosting.net/tdiclub/index.php/Interior_MK4 for more information.
[edit] Brake lamp switch
